“I started training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Philadelphia under Regis Lebre in 2005, and since then have yet to come across anyone as talented and passionate in the art of teaching Jiu-Jitsu as him. His dedication to technicalities gives him the knowledge needed to be one of the most detailed oriented instructors out there. His instruction is backed by hard training, tested technique, and a skill level that is world class. He has an ability to read into peoples personalities that not only helps your Jiu-Jitsu on the mat, but helps you in life outside the gym as well. His honest approach to letting you know exactly what weaknesses you have, as well as strengths, both physically and mentally, will give you insight that is rare to find. Jiu-Jtsu has changed my life, but without Regis as both a friend and instructor, I may not have seen all that it has to offer me.”

“Jiu-jitsu is an art of athleticism and strategy. I hate “working out” but I love to train jiu-jitsu, even though it is definitely a physical challenge and one that keeps me healthy and fit. Regardless of size or talent, anyone can become great at it, it just takes dedication and practice. Even as a female, I have learned that through jiu-jitsu, you can learn how to defeat significantly larger opponents using the right technique, leverage, and strategic thinking. Gracie San Diego provides a positive but disciplined learning environment where everyone feels welcome and can tap into their unlimited potential. I love this academy and that is why I spend day training here! It is what keeps me sane after hours and hours sitting in an office every day.”

It took me a while to find an excercise I love. Jiu-Jitsu is an amazing work out, and it never gets boring. Everyday it changes, so you never get bored. You always have someone to train with. If you want to compete, you can. You are definatley not forced. I look forward to training. But, I must say. Your instructors do make a difference. We have great instructors.
I have only been doing Jiu-Jitsu for about 5 months, and I learn something about myself almost everyday. Anyone can do it, from young to old, male or female.

I’ve been with the academy for about 5 months now and I love it. Definitely the best dojo I’ve trained at by far. I’ve trained at other schools before coming here but this academy blows them out of the water. Everyone at the dojo is super cool and they make you feel like family. The academy is always clean and the mat size is pretty big.
Regis and Johnny are the best instructors I’ve had, in any martial arts. Their teaching styles are very technical and you can see they genuinely want to make your game better. Prior to training here my game was not progressing but the way Regis and Johnny teach each class I have a better understanding of the technical aspects of Jiu Jitsu. Royler is also there on a regular basis and he just adds another view to help improve your game.

Forget about what you think you know… I came into my first class at the Gracie Competition Team San Diego academy thinking I knew a little bit and guess what, I knew less than a little bit. In my opinion, success and failure in BJJ depend on the details and your ability execute with those details as part of your game. Regis and Johnny provide top notch instruction and are great at breaking down the game and showing the all important details that help a player become more successful. As if that wasn’t enough, Royler stops by on a regular basis to instruct as well. They all inspire a great environment at the academy and everyone who attends class is open and friendly. The academy it self is large and clean with locker rooms and showers. It’s a honor to be part of the family!
